Abstract:

What is an operating system?

·       is a software program that enables the computer hardware to communicate and operate with the computer software

·    A computer’s operating system is its most important program

 Operating systems: As computers have progressed and developed so have the operating systems.

GUI (Graphical User Interface)	System 7.x,Windows 98,Windows CE.
Multiuser	Linux ,Unix ,Windows 2000.
Multiprocessing	Linux, Unix ,Windows 2000
Multitasking	Unix, Windows 2000
Multithreading:	Linux, Unix, Windows 2000

Advantage and disadvantage of Windows operating systems:

1.  It has a large library of available software

2.  Can be expensive

3.  Openness to virus attacks is a major disadvantage
